There’s something about a warm, milky oat latte that just feels like a hug for your nervous system. Oats are one of the most underrated yet deeply nourishing foods, and when infused into a latte, they become a powerhouse of calm and restoration.
When I was in holistic nutrition school, my teacher often spoke about having oats every morning to start your day for nervous system nourishment and emphasized, "If you want calmness, eat oats!" Now as an herbalist, I love incorporating beautiful oat tops into herbal infusions.
Milky oats, in particular, are incredibly supportive for the adrenals, those little glands that take a serious beating from stress and anxiety. If you’ve ever felt fried, like you just can’t handle one more thing, chances are your adrenals could use some love. Oats are mucilaginous, meaning they create a soothing, protective coating for your gut lining. And let’s be real, when we’re stressed, our digestion often takes a hit too. This nourishing latte won’t solve all your problems, but it will absolutely help you take on stress with a little more ease. And in the moment? It’s pure comfort.
Here’s how to make it:
Milky Oat Latte Recipe (Makes 2-3 Medium Cups)
Ingredients:
2-3 tbsp milky oat tops
2 tbsp oats (use whatever you have on hand)
1 tsp cinnamon
A few dashes of cardamom and nutmeg
A splash of vanilla
Any extra herbs you love (I used a blend of hormone-balancing herbs)
2 cups water
2 cups nut milk
Raw honey or maple syrup, to taste
Instructions:
Add the milky oat tops, oats, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and any extra herbs to a pot.
Pour in the water and nut milk, and bring everything to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
Cover with a lid and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
Remove the lid and let it rest for another 10 minutes.
Strain into your favorite mug, sweeten with raw honey or maple syrup, and enjoy.
